Stretch Marks Removal

What are stretch marks?

Stretch marks, also known as striae, are predominantly a form of scarring appearing in narrow streaks of parallel lines on your skin. They appear as reddish or dark lesions on the stretching skin.
When you touch stretch marks with your fingers, you might feel a slight ridge or indentation on your skin. Sometimes, stretch marks feel itchy or sore.
These lines commonly appear during or after pregnancy or after a sudden change in your weight. They also tend to occur in adolescents who are rapidly growing. Stretch marks aren’t dangerous, and they often disappear over time.
You can have stretch marks just about anywhere, but they’re most common on your stomach, breasts, upper arms, thighs, and buttocks.

What causes stretch marks?

Stretch marks are predominantly post scarring caused by intense skin stretching and an increase of cortisone in your system. Cortisone is a hormone naturally produced by adrenal glands, but over-production will weaken elastic fibres in the skin. Most women develop stretch marks on their abdomen during pregnancy and it is common to find the long streaks of lines appearing on the breasts, thighs, hips, lower back and buttocks where fats are mostly stored.

Factors Affecting Stretch Marks Formation:

  1. Pregnant
  2. Rapidly gain or lose weight
  3. Family history of stretch marks
  4. Overweight
  5. Using costicosteroid medications
  6. Cushing’s syndrome
